Abstract The IIMA-Citi Financial Literacy Symposium 2011 aims to increase the financial capability of adults and youth in India by influencing policy towards the creation of a National Framework for Financial Education; creating awareness about the status of financial literacy in India vs global best practices; advocating the role that financial education plays in changing financial behaviors and contributing to financial inclusion; and facilitating the development of partnerships for policy-makers and practitioners. The symposium is expected to be organized in Delhi in Q2 of 2012 and attended by more than 150 representatives and stakeholders who will share their views on a common platform - the first step towards creating consensus for a national policy. It is envisaged that the symposium would become an annual event, graduating each year to more technical and subject-specific themes. The Citi Foundation grant would be used to fund the human resource, material and travel costs associated with preparatory research, garnering resource persons and participants, meet the venue and hospitality costs for the symposium and preparing the policy paper at the end of the conference.
