Abstract |
During 2000, the Government of Andhra Pradesh, with support from the World Bank assisted Indian Population Programme (IPP VIII) spillover fund, initiated a scheme to provide basic primary healthcare and family welfare services to the urban poor of Andhra Pradesh. The scheme was implemented across the state among 74 municipalities. One hundred and ninety-two urban health centres (UHCs) were established, each covering a population of 15,000 – 20,000. Basic primary healthcare and family welfare component under the RCH programme formed the package of services. Through a combination of in-depth interviews and field visits, the study intends to study the structure and process in built up of partnership in the urban slum health scheme in Andhra Pradesh and understand the management capacity and competency in the make-up of the UHC scheme. |
