Abstract |
Significant advances in biotechnology have made it possible to identify genes and transfer them directly including from one organism to another. BT cotton, an outcome of this, has become one of the most widely grown transgenic crops in many countries including USA, China, Australia, India, Argentina, South Africa and Indonesia. Given the current debate on this in India, the study seeks to examine the advantages and disadvantages of BT cotton in India as a pest-resistant high yielding variety under rainfed and irrigated conditions, including cost of cultivation and net returns to farmers. |
