Abstract This study has the following objectives: • Review of the literature on fisheries subsidies and bring out relevant issues for India; • Review international case studies from secondary source materials, which can act as benchmark for conducting this study; • Evolve a typology of fisheries support and subsidies (both positive and negative) prevailing in India and chalk out a programme of fisheries sector reforms; • Determine the likely impact of reforms in fisheries sector subsidies on fisheries sector resources and viability of major types of fisheries sector organizations; and • Attempt to evolve India’s negotiating strategies on fisheries subsidies during the forthcoming WTO meetings.
