Abstract Major advances in biotechnology have made it possible to identify genes and transfer them from one organism to another. BT cotton is one of the most widely grown transgenic crops in a number of countries including USA, China, Australia, India, Argentina, South Africa, and Indonesia. The study seeks to examine the advantages and disadvantages of BT cotton as a pest-resistant variety in rainfed and irrigated conditions, including its cost of cultivation and net returns relative to other varieties.
