Abstract |
There has been great concern regarding the efficiency of marketing of fruits and vegetables in India. This is leading to high fluctuating consumer prices and only a small share of the consumer rupee reaching the farmers. Marketing of horticultural crops is complex because of perishability, seasonality, and bulkiness. The study examines the wholesale market for fruits and vegetables in Ahmedabad, Chennai, and Kolkata with respect to their structure, functioning, and facilities, and the supply chain from farmers to consumers through these markets for prices, costs, and efficiency. |
