Abstract There has been a great concern in recent years regarding efficiency in the marketing of fruits and vegetables. Agricultural Produce Market Committees and regulated markets have been set up to improve the efficiency. This is a study of wholesale markets in the Ahmedabad area to evaluate their contribution and performance. It also examines the value chain from farmers to the consumer and the share of the farmer in the consumer rupee.
