Abstract The project aims at implementing the concept of a “clearinghouse for educational innovations or an “educational bank, and is a response to the need to evolve a future-oriented approach for developing the capabilities of elementary school teachers is based on the strengths that outstanding teachers possess. The clearing house concept involves scouting out, and validation, of educational innovations evolved by outstanding primary teachers working on their own, and making them available in usable form to users of the clearinghouse, namely teachers, teacher training institutions, and educational policy makers. Ultimately, the project will offer an alternative solution-augmenting teacher development approach, which can be used by teacher networks for lifelong teacher learning or by teacher training institutions as part of their in-service and pre-service teacher training curriculum. It builds on pilot work done over the last few years at the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, and is the result of ideas tested out on a smaller scale.
