Vehicle theft is a major worry for police personnel. It also creates mental and financial problems for the owner of the vehicle. It is a well known fact that a vehicle is stolen either for the purpose of re-selling it to an unsuspecting buyer or to commit crime and abandon the vehicle later. Often, the buyer purchases a vehicle assuming that it is involved neither in any criminal activity nor in any accident. However, this assumption may not be true.
The SMS-based system is designed keeping such buyers in mind. The person who wishes to verify the authenticity of the vehicle sends an SMS with engine/chassis/vehicle number and the system sends back the FIR number, police station, date of FIR, etc. in case these exist in the database. FIR may have been registered anywhere in India.
